Catholic Schools Week

This morning at church, the priest reminded us to attend the Catholic Schools Week kick-off brunch after mass. Glad to know I wasn't imagining the smell of bacon wafting through the pews, I started thinking about how Catholic education has impacted my life. Laugh all you want about the uniforms, but those of us who wore them had a special bond from day one.

didn't quite realize how much of an impact my Catholic Education had on my life until recently. It’s more than just religion classes and going to mass a few times a week. It’s challenging AP courses and entrance exams to prepare you for college. It’s athletics and extracurriculars that teach you teamwork, leadership, and decision making skills. It’s going to school with the same people from kindergarten through senior year. It’s building friendships that will last a lifetime. It’s growing in your faith and knowing that someone is watching out for you as you try find your place in this crazy world.

In elementary school, it was learning prayers and learning about Jesus. In high school, it was digging into the scriptures and learning about church history. When I was looking a grad schools just a couple of months ago, it was easy to decide on Duquesne University. I like the campus, I like the people on campus, I like that ethics and morals are incorporated into every class and into my career. I like that I’m continuing my Catholic Education.

So with that, I’d like to wish a Happy Catholic Schools Week to all of my SAS & PHS classmates and friends. I hope you all got some bacon, or at least a cookie, after mass today :)
